A tablespoon of oil added to butter when frying helps it stop burning.
When frying bread, moisten it first with a little milk, it fries better and saves on fat
To make Melba Toast, cut the crusts from the bread and roll out firmly with a rolling pin. But into gingers and bake in the oven.
New bread can be cut into the thinnest of slices by dipping the knife in boiling water before using.
Keep a few marbles or glass pebbles in the bottom of your saucepan, they will rattle when low and remind you to re-fill it.
Keep salt running freely by adding a couple of grains of rice in the salt pot.
